DESCRIPTION:As the pandemic has lingered on far longer than expected\, several CAS members have requested that we conduct a virtual Retirement Planning Workshop this coming January. Consequently\, we have scheduled a virtual CAS Retirement Planning Workshop for Wednesday\, January 12\, 2022\, at 4:30 pm. \n  \nIt is never too early to start thinking about retirement and actively planning for it. Whether you are thinking of retiring sooner or later down the road\, we have developed an essential workshop for our members as a part of our continuing CAS Financial Literacy Program that you may find extremely helpful. On behalf of CAS\, I would like to extend you an invitation to attend a retirement planning workshop designed to inform\, educate\, and enhance your financial literacy as you prepare for the next phase of your life. \nRetirement – Will I be Ready and Able to Retire as Planned?\nWith Andrew Buttelman of Lincoln Investment and Special Guest Speaker\, David Daly** \nCAS Virtual Retirement Planning Workshop \n4:30 pm  \nWednesday\, January 12\, 2022\n    Melville Marriott\, Melville\, NY \n1350 Walt Whitman Road \n                                                                   \nThe workshop will focus on: \nNavigating the New York State Teachers System \n\nGetting credit for prior service\nGetting credit for prior military service and the new rules\nUnderstanding your in-service death benefit and making sure your family is secure\nDisability and your pension\nUnderstanding your death benefit\nVerifying Salaries\nChoosing an Option\nFiling the application\nEarning after retirement\n\n  \nTax-Deferred Investment Opportunities – What you need to know! \n\n403-b plans\nEmployer-sponsored 403-b and 457 plans\nElective and non-elective plans\nLimits\, options\, and catch up provisions\n\nSick days and Incentives \n\nWhat you must know about sick days\, incentives and understanding the Non-elective Employer-sponsored 403-b\n\n**David Daly was the manager of the Public Information Office of the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System. He was the System’s spokesperson and was responsible for its publications\, website\, and media information. Previously\, he was the Administrator of Pre-retirement Planning where he organized and implemented the System’s retirement planning seminar program\, which is a model for other systems throughout the country. Currently\, Dave is the Administrator of the National Pension Education Association and is a nationally known presenter on retirement planning issues and public employees’ programs. \nWe have received tremendous positive feedback from CAS members who have attended our previous Financial Literacy Workshops.
