SUMMARY:CAS Presents Virtual CTLE Workshop Education Love (EdLove) in the Time of COVID: Instruction\, Assessment\, and Digital Leadership
DESCRIPTION: Teaching\, learning and leading have required a different approach from the days once remembered. On February 25\, 2021\, Ed Kemnitzer led a CAS CTLE Workshop via Zoom for over 25 CAS members to review the impact the pandemic has had on education. School leaders explored tools that students and educators can “own” as they move forward in their learning and leadership. Throughout this two-hour interactive workshop\, attendees reflected on\, thought about\, and crafted a vision of what true 21st Century learning would encompass moving forward. Conversations focused on reevaluating the way students are assessed and “how we can change the platforms used to teach and lead.” Using project-based learning and sharing your story are ways to achieve that goal. \nNo stranger to CAS\, Ed is both a longtime member and professional development workshop presenter who is well known and highly respected across Long Island. He is the Director of Technology\, Innovation\, and Information Services for the East Williston School District and is passionate about learning\, instructional technology\, school branding\, and developing professional learning networks. Ed is a co-founder of EdCamp Long Island and currently serves on the board of the Association of Suffolk Supervisors for Educational Technologies (ASSET).  Ed is a past winner of the prestigious Fred Podolski Award for Leadership and Innovation in Technology\, and he has also garnered the Nassau BOCES School Library Services Administrator of the Year Award. Formerly an English teacher and assistant principal\, Ed also served as the Executive Assistant for Technology Integration for Curriculum Support & Development for the Massapequa Public Schools.  \nUpcoming CAS CTLE Workshops:  \nWorkshop Title: Meeting Magic: Strategies to Engage and Empower your Staff \nPresenter: A.J. Juliani\, national speaker\, author\, and Director of Learning and Innovation at Centennial School District \nDate and Time: Wednesday\, March 24\, 2021\, from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm \nCAS is a certified NYSED Continuing Teacher Leader Education (CTLE) sponsor\, and successful participants earned two (2) hours of CTLE professional development credit applicable toward the hours needed for continuing certification. \nUpcoming CAS CTLE Workshops are scheduled throughout the school year and communicated through email and the www.casliny.com website.

SUMMARY:CAS Presents Virtual CTLE Workshop: Revving Up for Informal Observations: Tips for Digital Check-Ins for Remote Instruction
DESCRIPTION: On January 21\, Dr. Shawn Robertson presented a CAS CTLE Workshop via Zoom for over forty CAS members seeking improved observational skills and credit toward continued administrative certification. Throughout this two-hour interactive workshop\, Dr. Robertson helped the participants explore different models for engaging in digital check-ins. Presently\, many of our schools are involved in all virtual or hybrid instruction models due to the COVID pandemic and because of this crisis\, teacher observations have mostly gone by the wayside with remote instruction’s predominance. \nDr. Robertson led the group interactively exploring flexible frameworks used locally and in nearby states to monitor teachers’ instruction that provide feedback\, build community\, support teacher growth\, and maintain a reasonable degree of accountability in the classroom. The workshop catalyzed the administrators in attendance to pursue more comprehensive strategies designed to better observe virtual instruction and focus on improving teaching and learning. \nDr. Shawn Robertson is an Associate Professor in the Child Study Department at St. Joseph’s College and a former secondary English teacher who has served as an Assistant Principal\, Principal\, and Chief Academic Officer. He holds a B.A. from SUNY Cortland\, an M.S. in English Education from Queens College\, an M.A. in Education from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts\, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from St. John’s University. He is a consistent presenter to local\, national\, and international audiences in pedagogy and technology integration. Author of several articles\, he is a self-described tech-geek who has a passion for teaching educators how to successfully bridge the digital divide through leveraging technology in creative ways. \nUpcoming CAS CTLE Workshops:  \nWorkshop Title: Education Love (EdLove) in the Time of COVID: Instruction\, Assessment\, and Digital Leadership \nPresenter: Ed Kemnitzer\, Director of Technology\, Innovation\, and Information Services for the East Williston School District \nDate and Time: Thursday\, February 25\, 2021\, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm \nWorkshop Title: Meeting Magic: Strategies to Engage and Empower your Staff \nPresenter: A.J. SUMMARY:CAS Closes Out Fall CTLE Offerings with Thomas Murray: “Staying Personal & Authentic Amid Adversity”
DESCRIPTION:For the past two school years\, the pandemic has created significant anxiety and uncertainty for teachers\, administrators\, parents\, and\, most importantly\, our children. Thomas Murray\, a nationally recognized teacher\, and author brought a message of hope and resilience to a virtual audience of CAS school administrators on Thursday\, December 12th\, via Zoom. Mr. Murray captivated those present with his energy\, enthusiasm for learning\, and love for our school communities. Participants left the workshop buoyed by his optimism and strengthened by his strategies to create school cultures where both students and staff thrive. He discussed ways we can work to overcome fear and move forward when things don’t go as planned and how to ensure technology plays its proper role in school “innovations.” He provided vivid examples of how strong personal and authentic relationships grounded in trust and built upon empathy can create a culture for learning that can improve our classrooms and schools. \n  \n\n\n\nThomas Murray serves as the Director of Innovation for Future Ready SchoolsR\, a Project of All4Ed\, located in Washington\, D.C. SUMMARY:CTLE Zoom Workshop - Staying Personal & Authentic in the Midst of Adversity with Thomas Murray
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic has brought uncertainty at every turn. The past two school years created significant anxiety and a loss of sleep for all educators\, regardless of position. \n\nHow can we create a culture where both students and staff thrive?\nHow can we work to overcome fear and move forward when things don’t go as planned?\nHow can we ensure technology plays its proper role\, and “innovation” doesn’t become a graveyard of tech tools?\n\nGrounded in relationships and built upon a culture for learning\, personal and authentic cultures of innovation respect the hidden stories within each individual and are learner-centered by design. Regardless of what happens outside your school walls\, together you can create meaningful opportunities while you remain hyper-focused on the things that matter most. The work is hard\, but our kids are worth it! \nThomas Murray serves as the Director of Innovation for Future Ready SchoolsⓇ\, a Project of All4Ed\, located in Washington\, D.C. He has testified before the United States Congress and has worked alongside that body\, the US Senate\, the White House\, the US Department of Education and state departments of education\, corporations\, and school districts throughout the country to implement student-centered\, personalized learning. He has also helped to lead Future Ready SchoolsⓇ and Digital Learning Day. Murray serves as a regular conference keynote\, was named the “2017 Education Thought Leader of the Year\,” one of “20 to Watch” by NSBA. SUMMARY:CAS Presents Workshops for Probationary Administrators
DESCRIPTION:  \nDespite the challenges of the Covid pandemic\, well over 130 enthusiastic new and probationary public-school administrators from over 40 Long Island districts participated in two virtual CAS workshops in November. Both the New and Probationary Public School Administrator workshops were presented by veteran CAS Attorneys Brad Stuhler and Michael Starvaggi. The number of probationers attending this year reflects the growing number of younger administrators now working throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. \nThe first part of the workshops addressed the legal aspects of administrative tenure\, seniority\, and frequent workplace pitfalls new administrators confront. The second part of the workshop focused on concerns regarding school safety\, student discipline\, and other common workplace issues facing new administrators. Brad and Mike provided practical guidance\, best practices\, and common-sense strategies for success through scenarios involving students\, staff\, and parents based on their recent experiences. Many participants remained after the workshop to ask Brad and Mike personal questions. \nCAS is a certified NYSED Continuing Teacher Leader Education (CTLE) sponsor\, and successful participants earned two (2) hours of CTLE professional development credit applicable toward the hours needed for continuing certification. \nAdditional CAS CTLE Workshops are scheduled throughout the school year and communicated through email and the www.casliny.com website.
