DESCRIPTION:CAS Presents Another Virtual CTLE Workshop \nOn Thursday\, December 15\, 2022 Christopher Kauter\, Director of Digital Learning and Innovation for the Bay Shore School District\, presented a CAS CTLE Workshop entitled “Tech Tips for Administrators” on Zoom. \nThis workshop provided participants with practical suggestions on how to handle data\, manage correspondences and leverage social media more effectively. In particular\, he demonstrated many approaches to quickly build local technology capacity and maximizing your output. Mr. Kauter touched on several effective ways to use your time wisely by employing valuable and often overlooked aspects of the Google and Outlook email platforms that can improve and organize communication with parents. \nFrom color-coding your calendar to reducing the ongoing email exchange you spent time having just to set up a meeting using Calend.ly or your Google account. Participants also learned how to train their email inbox to filter the important information from the unnecessary using tabs in their Google email. He also helped attendees retrieve an email they sent using the delayed send setting. This feature allows you to retrieve an email before it is sent to make one last correction or adjustment. Mr. Kauter also explained that creating email templates for recurring communications can increase efficiency. \nNavigating our changing world requires time to reflect and make adjustments. Technology can help with that. The application Headspace is a meditation application that can guide you through quick meditations and mindfulness activities. If you don’t have time for that\, create space on your calendar to focus. By designating a block of time on your calendar using the focus feature\, you’ll be able to give yourself much needed processing time. When you’re ready to return to your To-Do List\, there are a few applications that can help. Workshop participants will explore basic terminology and best practices for serving LGBTQ+ people and the programs and services available on Long Island. Attendees will also better understand their LGBTQ+ students and gain insight into working with students and parents. \nZenada Gordon\, PFY LGBTQ Services Coordinator\, manages all aspects of PFY’s Coffeehouse program\, a drop-in center for LGBTQ+ youth and allies ages 13 – 20 at the Bellmore location. Zenada coordinates PFY’s volunteer program and supervises Associate and Bachelor level interns. She also facilitates PFY’s TransAction & Queer Connect programs and conducts outreach for these services\, focusing on LGBTQ+ youth of color. SUMMARY:CAS Presents Contract Negotiations Workshop - Thursday\, March 9\, 2023 - Zoom Meeting
DESCRIPTION:  CAS Attorneys  Brad Stuhler and Paul Pagano presented an informative CAS Contract Negotiations Workshop for local unit leaders who will soon embark on contract negotiations for their local CAS unit. The two-hour workshop\, conducted via Zoom on Wednesday\, March 9th at 4:00 pm\, centered on educating Administrator Negotiation Teams and CAS Unit Presidents of contract negotiations strategies. The virtual workshop provided the participants’ opportunities to share ideas and network with colleagues in other administrative units in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  During this interactive experience\, Brad and Paul detailed suggestions for structuring negotiation teams and collecting the appropriate data before initiating  contract negotiations. They also focused on the benefits of thoughtfully timing contract negotiations\, developing realistic expectations\, gathering relevant data\, and understanding what procedures to expect during the process. Items of concern included understanding the difference between formal negotiations and informal negotiations\, the impact of the 2% Tax Cap\, and the fears generated by the instructional and structural modifications caused by the COVID pandemic. The workshop also touched on the legal aspects and significant restrictions related to the Taylor Law and the Triborough Amendment. Each topic presented generated discussions that helped the participants understand the potential impact on their negotiations. Brad and Paul provided practical guidance\, best practice examples\, and common-sense strategies for successful negotiations. The large number of enthusiastic participants attending reflected local concerns related to state aid and Federal assistance to local communities. Consequently\, several units planned for individual follow-up with their CAS attorney. \nUpcoming CAS CTLE Workshops:  \nWorkshop Title:   \nPresenter:   \nDate and Time:   \nAlthough this was not a professional development training workshop\, CAS is a certified NYSED Continuing Teacher Leader Education (CTLE) sponsor and successful participants earned two (2) hours of CTLE professional development credit applicable toward the hours needed for continuing certification. \nUpcoming CAS CTLE Workshops are scheduled throughout the school year and communicated through email and the www.casliny.com website.
