I hope everything is fine with you and that you are off to a strong start to the school year.
Although the New York State Legislature is not in session now, Bob Ungar, our legislative lobbyist, is in Albany and at their local offices, working with our legislators and their aides to do whatever is necessary to keep our interests at the forefront of legislators’ minds.
The regular 2026 legislative session adjourned in early June. Still, our lawmakers will be returning for the 2027 session this January, and we must be prepared to continue our opposition to introducing school vouchers that will take money away from our schools and expanding Charter Schools without the approval of the New York State Education Department.
As is the case every two years, all members of both legislative houses are up for reelection again this year. We need to support those who champion public education and oppose the forces advancing an education agenda that is contrary to the needs of our students and school communities. Like NYSUT, we must continue to meet with key legislators to seek fair and equitable funding for public education, but we cannot accomplish our goals without your financial support.
