As we previously reported, on June 8, 2021, the governor signed legislation to suspend APPR requirements for the 2020-2021 school year. Since that time, a bill has been signed into law which provides additional clarification regarding cases in which an APPR evaluation has not been completed. The new law provides additional clarification, specifically:
- Adding clarifying language to the tenure process which assures that school districts are not required to to perform APPR evaluations, thus giving school districts the option to conduct evaluations should they choose to do so.
- Retaining the superintendent’s discretion to recommend or not recommend an individual for tenure.
We will continue to monitor developments in this area.
