On November 16th CAS sponsored another well-attended and informative after school workshop focused on Financial Literacy and Retirement Planning entitled “Will I be Ready and Able to Retire as Planned?” at the Long Island Huntington Hilton Hotel in Melville.  Andrew Buttelman, from the Legend Group, along with guest speaker David Daly provided over 40 CAS members present with valuable information about their New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS) pension benefits, long-term financial planning and Social Security.  David Daly was the New York Teachers Retirement system spokesperson and the Coordinator of Pre-Retirement Planning for many years and is a well-respected expert on the NYS pension system.  Topics discussed included; choosing a retirement option; understanding your in-service death benefit, prior service and out of state service; unused sick days; employer-sponsored non-elective and elective 403(B) plans; understanding all pension tiers and member benefit calculations.  The program ran from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with refreshments served and many members remaining afterward to ask Andrew and David individual questions.

CAS will continue to sponsor Financial Literacy workshops for our members focused on Retirement and College Planning, Social Security and tax shelter programs commonly offered by school districts to administrative employees such as the Roth IRA, various 403(B) and 457 plans.

Members unable to attend this workshop who wish to find out more about college and retirement planning may contact Andrew Buttelman directly at:
