On November 12th CAS sponsored a well-attended and informative workshop on Financial Literacy at the Holiday Inn Express just off the LIE in Hauppauge. Andrew Buttelman, from the Legend Group, invited David Daley as a guest speaker to present CAS members with a good deal of important information about their New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS) pension benefits. David was the New York Teachers Retirement system spokesperson and the Coordinator of Pre-Retirement Planning for many years and is a well-respected expert on the NYS pension system. Topics included; choosing a retirement option; prior service and out of state service; unused sick days; employer sponsored non-elective and elective 403(B) plans; understanding all pension tiers and member benefit calculations. The program ran from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with refreshments served and many members remaining afterwards to ask individual questions.
