On March 23rd, CAS sponsored another well-attended after school workshop focused on Financial Literacy and Retirement Planning at the Melville Marriott Long Island Hotel in Melville.  Andrew Buttelman, of Lincoln Investment, along with guest speaker David Daly provided over 30 CAS members with valuable information about their New York State Teachers’ Retirement System (NYSTRS) pension benefits, long-term financial planning, and Social Security.  David Daly was the New York Teachers’ Retirement system spokesperson and the Coordinator of Pre-Retirement Planning for many years and is a well-respected expert on the NYS pension system.  Topics discussed included; understanding all pension tiers, pension benefit calculations, choosing a retirement option and understanding your in-service death benefit, prior service and out of state service. Further guidance was provided on how to shelter unused sick days and employer-sponsored non-elective and elective 403(B) plans. The program ran from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with refreshments served and many members remaining afterward to ask Andrew and David personal questions.

CAS will continue to sponsor similar Financial Literacy workshops throughout the school for our members that will once more focus on Retirement, College Planning, Social Security and tax shelter programs commonly offered by school districts to administrative employees such as the Roth IRA, various 403(B) and 457 plans.

CAS members are entitled to a free personalized Financial Plan with Lincoln Investment. If you have a question, or need any assistance whatsoever regarding an IRA, 403(B), or 457 plan, please feel free to email or call Andrew at the number below:
