As you know, ESSAA is a respected partner of the State Education Department, meeting with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner regularly to address issues of importance to our members and to the students we serve.  In this way, we are able to achieve real results that improve the quality of education in our state.  One example of this pertains to the World Language Assessment as a 4+1 graduation pathway.  Our delegates have been advocating for this and other alternative pathways in our meetings with NYSED for the past several months.  After our most recent meeting, we received a message for Jhone Ebert, Senior Deputy Commissioner, forwarding an announcement that five world languages assessments have been approved for the 4+1 Pathway (http://www.nysed.gov/news/2018/five-world-languages-assessments-approved-41-pathway-graduation) and asking us to share this good news with our membership.  Senior Deputy Commissioner Ebert acknowledged the fact that we brought this issue to the attention of NYSED and thanked us for our partnership with them.

We are very pleased to create meaningful results through our relationship with policy makers and we thank the Commissioner and Senior Deputy Commissioner Ebert for their openness to our ideas and for all they do to improve education for our students.
