On October 30, 2017, ESSAA Representatives met with the co-chairs of the Board of Regents’ State Aid Subcommittee, Regents Beverly Ouderkirk and Nan Mead.

The meeting was a “getting to know you” session with the new co-chairs and was very positive.

In attendance for ESSAA was Carol Conklin-Spillane, ESSAA President, Ryan Schoenfeld, ESSAA Vice President, Ronald Gonzalez, ESSAA Member, Mount Vernon Schools, and Michael Starvaggi, Executive Director.

The topics discussed included allocation of aid for key areas including pre-K programs, civic engagement, teacher preparation and professional development.

In addition, Ms. Conklin-Spillane stressed the importance of ensuring that the promised levels of state funding are met and that current funding levels are protected from reduction.

We will continue to discuss State Aid issues directly with State policymakers and develop an advocacy platform for the benefit of all of our constituents throughout the State.  We will update you as to all developments.
