School safety is every school leader’s number one priority and in the wake of terrorist and safety threats targeting our schools, CAS is sponsoring a school safety seminar entitled School Safety for the Technological Age on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Plainview Holiday Inn at 215 Sunnyside Blvd., Plainview, NY 11803 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Registration will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and refreshments will be provided.
Our lead presenter, Mr. Charles Mitchell, an experienced school administrator and noted expert, has traveled New York State presenting to school administrators, staff, students and parents on issues related to internet and school safety. He has also written numerous articles on the topic. Mr. Mitchell has received extensive training by both Homeland Security and FEMA in areas of Emergency Planning for Schools, Incident Command, and dealings with Bomb Threats for Schools. He has also received specific training from the U.S. Secret Service in profiling a school shooter and threat assessment for schools.
Mr. Mitchell will focus on how rapidly changing technology and social media applications have impacted the safe and orderly operation of our schools. Actual school examples of internet safety, trends, challenges and threat issues will be discussed.
The conference will conclude with a panel discussion featuring local school administrators, John Coady, Principal of Smithtown West HS, and Dr. LaQuita Outlaw, Principal of Bay Shore MS. Along with Mr. Mitchell, and our CAS attorneys, the panel will discuss and field questions regarding current school safety challenges such as terrorist threats, cyberbullying and the most recent “sexting” phenomena.
The workshop is free for CAS members. For non-members there is a $75.00 fee. Please mail your check made out to CAS to our office.
